#9 George Poirier finds a opening in the five hole with this short handed wrist rocket to give Arvada a 2-0 lead in the second period.

The puck was dropped on the semifinals of the 2017 Avalanche International Qualifier at the Pepsi Center, where Arvada Hockey Association took on the Arapahoe Warriors for a chance to move on to the finals and an opportunity to represent the Avalanche in the Lions Cup International Tournament in Finland this coming spring.

The goaltending was superb in the first period, as both goalies turned back nine shots apiece to keep the game a scoreless tie after the first period.  Arapahoe's Baden Johansen (27 SV) and Arvada's Kaleb Bartholomew (22 SV) put on a display between the pipes making save after save in the first to keep it deadlocked heading into the second.

Arvada would seize control of the game in the second period, thanks to their special teams play.  Colton Urban got them on the scoreboard with a power play goal just over five minutes into the period, and teammate George Poirier added a short hander less than three minutes later to give Arvada a 2-0 lead going into the final period.

Ayden Schmidt cut the lead in half just a minute into the third to close the gap to 2-1, but once again Arvada would answer on the power play with a goal from Mario Rodriguez (1G, 1A) a few minutes later to stretch the lead back to a two goal advantage.  Erick Burggraf closed the gap once more for Arapahoe late in the third, but Arvada's AJ Ulrich put the game away with a last minute goal to guide them to a 4-2 victory and a spot in the Avalanche International Qualifier finals.

#61 Eric Burggraf pops this one over the shoulder of the Arvada goalie to pull Arapahoe within a goal at 3-2 in the third period.
