#21 Michael Atwood gets the scoring started with the first goal of the game to put the Mustangs up 1-0 just over a minute into the game.

The #5 Ralston Valley Mustangs (6-2) were able to bounce back nicely from their loss to Fort Collins at the beginning of the new year, with a resounding 9-4 victory over #8 Mountain Vista (5-3-1) on Friday night at Apex.

The Mustangs started the game with plenty of horse power and looked like they might run away with the game early, but the Golden Eagles would not soar off into the sunset without a fight.  Ralston Valley got off to a fast start, getting three goals in the first five minutes of the game from Michael Atwood (3G), Jack Steffer (4G, 2A) , and Matthew Trubacz (1G, 6A) to put them up 3-0 early.

#29 Matthew Trubacz puts Ralston Valley up 3-0 in the first period with an absolute snipe.

Mountain Vista would answer right back with the Josh connection, as Josh Pusar (1G, 1A) found Josh Hellem for the Golden Eagles' first goal.  They would close the gap even further when Ian Duncan (1G, 1A) would light the lamp on the power play to make it a 3-2 Mustangs lead at the end of the first period.

The second period started slow, but ended in a flurry of scoring activity.  Ralston Valley would break the game wide open with three goals in 3:40 to give them a 6-2 lead.  Mountain Vista's Harrison Golden would get one back with 30 seconds left in the second to pull Vista within 6-3 at the end of the second.

Ralston Valley would begin the third period in a similar fashion to the way they ended the second, by scoring three goals in just over six minutes to put the finishing touches on their sixth win of the season.  Both Jack Steffer and Michael Atwood would net themselves hat tricks with goals in the first five minutes of the third to lead them to victory.

#10 Josh Hellem scores the Golden Eagles' first goal to close the gap to 3-1 against Ralston Valley.
