The Colorado State Ram's DIII and Metro State's DII hockey teams met in the first game of the Rocky Mountain Center Ice Showdown at the Pepsi Center on Friday night, and they got it started right. The Rams struck first with goals from #15 Josh Malone and #20 Jacob Christofferson to put them up 2-0 early. The Roadrunners of Metro State would not go quietly, however, as #6 Bobby Valdez would score on the power play early in the third to close the gap to 2-1. The late brilliance of Rams goaltender #35 Marcus Harbison and an empty net goal by #28 Dmitri Smith would prove to be the difference in the end, as the Rams would pull out the 3-1 victory.

The Colorado Buffs DII hockey team faced off with the Northern Colorado Bears DII in game two of the Rocky Mountain Center Ice Showdown at the Pepsi Center on Friday, and it was an ice-melter of a contest. The Buffs struck first with a goal by #7 Greg Dyba, but the Bears answered back early and often with three straight goals by #23 Truman Gozales unassisted in the first, #3 Charlie Marchese in the second, and #15 Alex Cupples to start the third. Just when it looked as though the Bears were about to pull away, the Buffs came stampeding back with two late goals by #19 Brad Kittrell and #33 Brandon Payzant to force overtime. The extra session would take all of six seconds as the Bears #5 Brian Brink would gather the loose puck off the face off and saunter in for an unassisted game winner to give Northern Colorado a thrilling 4-3 overtime win.

The Colorado State Rams Women's hockey team faced off with the Denver Pioneers Women's squad in round three of the Rocky Mountain Center Ice Showdown, and the ladies did not disappoint. The Rams would get on the board first with a goal by #8 Ashley Chase just three minutes into the game to give CSU a 1-0 lead after the first period. Denver came right back, getting a goal midway through the second period to tie it up and after a scoreless third, we would head to overtime tied at 1-1. In the extra period, Ashley Chase would strike again, scoring her second goal of the game to lead the Rams to 2-1 overtime win.

The main event of the 2016 Rocky Mountain Center Ice Showdown pitted rivals the Colorado Buffaloes DI against the Colorado State Rams DI for early in-state hockey bragging rights. Those rights would belong solely to the Buffs of Colorado at the end of the night as they would go on to handle the Rams with a 10-2 drubbing. #10 Trace Jablin (1G, 2A) lit the lamp first for the Buffs, giving them an early 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. #3 William Neff (1G, 1A) would give the Rams hope with their first goal in the second to make it 4-1, but the Buffs would score three goals in a relentless third period barrage to win going away. #68 Matthew Anders (1G, 2A), #71 Chris Burkemper (1G, 1A), #14 Luke Carter (1G, 1A), #53 Matthew Hefter (2G), and #26 Devon Pilkington (1G, 1A) all had multiple points with a goal to lead the Buffs to victory.
