Teams get the season started with the Labor Day Pioneer Classic at Magness and Joy Burns


#19 Luke Collins snipes one top shelf for the West Elk Wolverines Midget Minor A to tie it at 1-1. West Elk would go on to win 4-1 over DU Midget Minor A on Sunday at Magness Arena


Sunday Games at Magness

DU Midget Minor A vs. West Elk Midget Minor A

     The West Elk Midget Minor A Wolverines scored four straight goals in the second and third periods to overcome an early deficit and defeat the DU Midget Minor A Pios 4-1 on Sunday.  DU's Garrison Sheperd scored to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead going into the second, but Luke Collins (1G, 1A) and teammate Garrett Loebe (1G, 2A) each scored for West Elk and goaltender Hunter Hadsock (25 SV, 1 GA, .962 SV%) was able to shut the door for the win.

Foothills Tier II Major AA vs. Evolution U15 AAA

     In a see-saw battle that had four ties and three lead changes, the Foothills Tier II Major AA Flyers were able to put the biscuit in the basket four times in the third period to pull out a 6-4 win over Evolution U15 AAA.  Arsenli Smekhnov (1G, 1A) scored to give Evolution a 3-2 lead going into the third period, however, Nicholas Marchese (3G, 1A) took over and scored a hat trick in the third period for Foothills.  Jacob Gombos (1G, 1A), Josh Pusar (1G, 1A), and Brendan Williams (3A) also had multiple point games to lead the Flyers to victory.

 



#19 Nicholas Marchese scores his second goal with this rocket late in the third period. Marchese would net three goals in the third period for the hat trick, leading his Foothills Flyers Tier II Major AA to a 6-4 victory over Evolution

Sunday at Joy Burns

Regis Club Tier 2 vs. Arapahoe Tier II Minor AA

     Cormac Gorman scored in the first two minutes to give Arapahoe a 1-0 lead, but Leighton Walsh and Mac Padilla would each net goals for Regis to give them a 2-1 lead going into the third.  Arapahoe's Alec Clair was able to score the only goal of the third to send the game into an overtime shootout, where Phillip Wildes scored the only shootout goal for Regis to give them the 3-2 shootout win.  Bryn White (39 SV, 2 GAA, .951 SV%) was brilliant in goal for Arapahoe in a losing effort, while Marco Sandoval (33 SV, 2 GAA, .943 SV%) was equally fantastic between the pipes for Regis.
